What is Krillion

Krillion is a daily “name something” game in which the rarest valid answer wins. Each prompt asks you to name one thing, such as a fruit that is red inside or a country with “and” in its name, and Krillion rewards you for picking an answer that very few other players would think of.

The theme is a dive. You play as a small krill, and every point you score drags it further down a depth gauge that runs from sunlit water past the midnight zone and the Titanic’s resting depth to the hadal trench. Obvious answers barely move you; a strange but correct answer can drop you hundreds of metres in one go. That single twist makes Krillion feel different from ordinary trivia, where any correct answer is as good as another.

Krillion is made by one developer who goes by kp, and it runs at krillion.io in any desktop or phone browser. The daily dive is free. Alongside it there is an Unlimited mode, a set of themed packs and a beta party mode called Puffer Party. This page covers the daily game; the sister pages on Krillion Unlimited and Krillion packs cover the rest.

Krillion in one sentence: seven prompts, 25 seconds each, one answer per prompt, and the less common your correct answer is, the more points it scores and the deeper your krill sinks.

How to play Krillion

A Krillion dive takes about three minutes. The steps are always the same:

  1. Start the dive. Open krillion.io and press “Begin descent”. The day’s dive number is shown on the start screen; today’s is #114.
  2. Read the prompt carefully. Each of the seven Krillion prompts names a category and often adds a rule, such as “one word only” or “everyday clothing doesn’t count”. An answer that breaks the rule scores nothing.
  3. Type one answer within 25 seconds. You get a single guess per prompt. Krillion’s autocorrect is generous because many answers have aliases, so small typos are usually fine.
  4. Watch the reveal. Krillion shows how rare your answer was and adds its points to your depth.
  5. Finish all seven and share. Your final depth is your result. The same seven prompts are shared by everyone that day, so comparing depths with friends is fair.

There are no retries: Krillion gives you one daily dive, and the prompts change at midnight Eastern time. If you want the prompts in advance to plan your approach, our Krillion hints page lists them each morning with a thinking angle for each.

Krillion scoring

Krillion scores every accepted answer by how rare it is. The developer builds each answer set from dictionaries, encyclopedias and other references, then ranks rarity either mechanically, against a database of how often a word or name appears in what people read and write, or with a mix of AI assistance and a manual pass when a number cannot capture it.

In practice the Krillion scoring ladder looks like this:

Each point moves you 10 metres down, and the maximum for a daily dive is 700 points, or roughly 7,000 metres. In other words each of the seven prompts can be worth up to 100 points. A wrong answer, a timeout or an answer that breaks the prompt’s rule scores zero for that prompt.

Krillion vs the daily alternatives

The Krillion daily is the core game, but several other ways to play sit next to it, and it helps to know how they differ:

ModePromptsAttemptsBest for
Krillion daily dive7, same for everyone1 per dayComparing scores with friends
Krillion UnlimitedRandom from a poolNo limitPractice and longer sessions
Themed packs30 levels per packProgress savedWords, movies, sports, geography fans

If you like the idea but want the opposite challenge, where the most common answer wins, look at Noillirk and its successor Crowdict. Our Krillion vs Noillirk comparison explains the difference in detail.

Tips to score higher in Krillion

  1. Skip your first thought. In Krillion your first idea is almost always everyone’s first idea. Use it as a signpost of what not to type, then go two or three steps further.
  2. Beware the “too clever” trap. When a prompt asks for a fruit that is red inside, “blood orange” feels sneaky, but thousands of players think of it. Look for the answer a specialist would know: a regional variety, a technical term, a lesser-known member of the category.
  3. Think in sub-categories. Break the category into smaller groups and pick from the least crowded one. For “a country with ‘and’ in its name”, most players stop at the obvious island nations; checking full official names opens more options.
  4. Respect the wording. Krillion prompts often carry a rule like “one word only” or a nutritional threshold. A rare answer that breaks the rule is worth zero, so spend two seconds re-reading before you type.
  5. Bank a safe rare answer if you are stuck. With 25 seconds there is no time to hunt for the perfect gem. An uncommon answer you are sure is valid beats a brilliant one you are not sure about.

FAQ

Is Krillion free to play?

Yes. The daily dive at krillion.io is free in any browser with no account. Themed packs are also free while they are in beta, and any optional purchase there turns off ads across the site.

How many prompts are in a Krillion dive?

Seven. Every player gets the same seven prompts on the same day, with 25 seconds to type one answer for each.

What time does Krillion reset?

The daily dive resets at midnight US Eastern time, which is 05:00 UTC while the US is on standard time and 04:00 UTC in summer.

Can I play Krillion more than once a day?

The daily dive is one attempt per day with no retries. For more rounds, use Krillion Unlimited or the themed packs, which do not touch your daily result.

What is the deepest you can go in Krillion?

Every point sinks you 10 metres and a perfect daily is 700 points, so a flawless run reaches about 7,000 metres, the trench floor at the bottom of the depth gauge.

Is Krillion the same as Crowdict or Noillirk?

No. Krillion at krillion.io is a separate game made by one developer. Crowdict and Noillirk are a different team’s games; Crowdict’s Rare mode is “Krillion-style” but has its own prompts, answer lists and scoring.
